We received the following question from one of our board visitors:
Subject: Closing a deal.
Sunday, August 05 2007
Message: I have a client that wants to send payment T-T into my account. But then he wants me to refund it back to him. This sounds fishy to me. Would like to know if this sounds normal?
Thanks.
R.B.
Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your email.
It does sound like a fishy request and something to be careful with since it appears to be very similar to Overpayment Scam as described on USA Federal Bureau of Investigation website:
Overpayment Scams: The victim is advertising an item for sale. A “buyer” sends the seller a counterfeit check or money order for more than the cost of the item. The victim is asked to return the difference between the payment and the cost of the item. When the payment turns out to be counterfeit, the victim is held responsible by his or her financial institution.
