Aerogel safety
The safety of an aerogel depends on the composition of the substance it produces. At present, aerogels based on silicon have not been found to be carcinogenic or toxic. However, silicone aerogels can irritate the eyes, skin, respiratory tract and digestive system, and once contacted, can cause dryness of the skin's mucous membranes. Therefore, it is recommended to wear goggles and gloves when holding silicone gel to avoid injury.
