Other alternative fuel vehicles use fuel cells instead of fuel tanks.
The majority of vehicles in the US, however, are equipped with gasoline-powered engines, making the gas tank almost synonymous with the fuel tank. And for as long as most of the vehicles in the world still relies on gasoline for power, or for as long as the technology for alternative fueled vehicles (AFV) have not yet been perfected, gas tanks would continue to be among the most essential part of the vehicle.
However, if not given proper attention and care, gas tanks can be potential hazards to vehicle occupants. Corroded, leaking and damaged gas tanks, as well as improperly mounted gas tanks, are among the major causes of pre- and post- collision accidents and vehicle fires. It is important, therefore, to give your gas tank a regular check for its condition. A slightly leaking and slightly damaged gas tank can still be repaired by a professional mechanic, but a corroded and largely damaged one would definitely need a replacement. Should you find the need to replace your vehicle's gas tank with a new one, make sure that what you will replace it with is of superior quality and free from any damage.
