Note:
Winding the sensor cord around tight
sharp edges can result in the internal
wires being damaged.
The
sensor clip should only be clipped to a
patient’s finger (e.g. not wire basket on VS
machine stand) as this loosens the clip and
prevents an accurate measurement
Placement of single use sensor on great
toe (OxiMax Infant Oxygen Sensor 3-20 kg -
brown)
A. Remove plastic backing from the
sensor. Note the corresponding
alignment marks
(a) on the nonadhesive side and the dashed line
(c)midway between the marks. Place the
sensor so the dashed line is on the
lateral edge of the site
NOTE: great toe is the preferred
location. Secure the sensor cord to the
bottom of the foot using surgical foam
tape. If possible, place a sock over the
patient’s foot as well.
B. Place the sensor so the window next to
the cable is aligned on the bottom of
the great toe as shown. The cable
should extend towards the heel.
C. Wrap the sensor firmly, but not too
tightly around the toe (securing probe
too tightly can cause a pressure sore).
Windows must oppose each other.
