Latin name: Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.
Active Ingredient:Ursolic acid
The Loquat tree is a moderately
sized tree and can grow up to thirty feet. The Loquat leaves are evergreen and are five to twelve inches long and three to four inches wide. These beautiful leaves are glossed and dark-green.
Botanical Source: It is the leaves of loquat belonged to rosaceae plant. It is green arbor or shrub. Its leaves are alternative and long oval-shaped or inverted ovate. There are scattered sawtooth on the edge. There are many fold in the front of base.There are thick and rusty nap behind the base. It is fostered all over the world, and wildly grows in SiChuan and HuBei province .It can be picked all the year.
Pharmacological Function: Including amygdalin, ursolic acid, Oleanolic acid, Vitamin B1, and C, tannin, organic acid, carbohydrate and so on. Main function: removing heat from the lung to relieve cough, lowering the adverse flow of qi, preventing vomiting. It can be used for cough due to the lung-heat, abnormal rising of the qi, rapid respiration, stomach heat, dysphoria with thirst.
Loquat is an evergreen tree with delicate, edible, pear-shaped fruits native to southeastern China, but is widely cultivated. The long, elliptical-shaped leaves have a history of use in traditional Chinese medicine. The corosolic acid extracted from loquat leaves potentiates glucose transport and uptake, which lowers blood glucose and decreases the need for insulin secretion.
