lotus car shock absorbers
Shock Absorbers Passengers from the modern period is lucky since they do not
have to worry of rolling cars because of rocks and other hindrances that can cause the driver to loose control of the vehicle. From the desire to have better vehicle control, car suspensions were used to provide smoother pivots. Together with suspensions are shock absorbers to damp the up and down oscillation of the car's leaf springs. Early shock absorbers lack durability and efficiency but as new technology arise; various improvements were done to aid the driver in various road conditions.
How do shock absorbers work? First and foremost, the basic purpose of shock absorbers is to manage the movement of the spring and suspension done by converting the kinetic energy produced by the suspension to thermal or heat energy degenerated by means of hydraulic fluid. Shock absorbers work like an oil pump. On the end of the piston rod is a piston that works with the hydraulic fluid on the car's pressure tube. The up and down movement of the suspension forces the hydraulic fluid to the tiny holes inside the piston but since the holes are just small enough, the piston slows down and thus also decreases the movement of the suspension and spring.
The resistance produced by the shock absorber is dependent on the quantity and size of the holes or orifices in the piston and the speed of the suspension movement. Technologically advanced shock absorbers are equipped with velocity hydraulic damping devices which provide increased speed in the movement of the suspension to attain greater resistance. The outcome is a versatile shock absorber that can easily jive with various types of roads. Bounce, sway, brake dive and acceleration squat are then reduced.
Common designs of shock absorbers used nowadays are twin tube designs and mono tube designs. A twin tube shock absorber is made up of an inner and outer tube that work together to achieve the intended purpose. A mono tube on the other hand, as the name implies, is made up of one tube mounted in an upside down position to decrease weight.
