Rapid Chloride Permeability Test Apparatus

Product Description:
Concretes incorporating fly ash or silica fume are less permeable to deleterious
elements and thus are
more durable than conventional concretes. The Rapid
Chloride-ion Permeability Test (RCPT) was designed to assess the resistance
of concrete to the penetration of chloride ions, an indicator of its permeability.
This is a fully self-contained, complete kit as per ASTM C 1202-05
including the following items:
.
• Plexiglass chambers with brass mesh, terminals and Steel bolts - 3 Pairs.
• 60V DC Constant voltage power supply with 3 channels – 01 No.
• 250 mm vacuum dessicator – 01 No..
• Vacuum pump – 01 No.
• Double Stage Moisture trap – 01 No.
• Electrometric Rubber Moulds for cylindrical specimens - 3 Nos.
• Temperature probe – 01 No.
• Consumables - good for 1 doz. tests
o RTV sealant + gun – 01 No.
o Acrylic sealer + brush - 01 No.
The concrete cylindrical specimen - 50 mm thk. is first prepared by coating the dry surface with a sealer and then vacuum conditioning it as per the ASTM codal procedure. Then the saturated specimen is mounted in the Plexiglass chambers, the sealant applied and the reservoirs filled with NaCl & NaOH respectively.The terminals are then connected to the 60 V DC power supply and the current read in mA on the digital readouts every ½ hr. for 6 hrs. The current magnitude depends on the ions passing through the pores of the concrete specimen (including chloride ions), which in turn depend on the permeability of concrete. The total charge Q passed in 6 hrs. is calculated as per the formula :
Q = 900 x ( I0 + 2 × I30 + 2 × I60 + 2 × I120 + I360)
The value is adjusted for specimen diameters other than 95 mm .This charge in coulombs is an indication of the Cl-Ion penetrability as listed below.

A spreadsheet software along with recording formats can be provided to calculate Q . The kit provides an arrangement to test 3 specimens simultaneously as suggested by the ASTM 1202.
