The general market commercial LN crystal is a kind of typical non-stoichiometric crystal, is congruent
lithium niobate crystals grown by Czochralski method of traditional (Congruent LN, referred to as CLN), its stoichiometry of [Li]/[Nb]=48.6/51.4. Although the CLN crystal has good component consistency, but due to loss of Li, makes a lot of intrinsic defects in the crystal (such as antisite defects), greatly reduces the many physical properties of lithium niobate crystal, especially the crystal resistance ability of optical damage, in order to improve the laser damage threshold of crystals, often in CLN crystals doped with MgO, decreased because of the intrinsic defects of Nb antisite leads on the crystal properties. High performance powder (polycrystalline material) preparation is the key factor to guarantee the quality of the late crystal growth. General lithium niobate powders synthesis method is adopted to be mixed according to the proportion of the raw material calcined at 1200 ℃, after high temperature solid state reaction obtained LiNbO3 polycrystal material. Easy to cause the Li lithium volatilization during calcination, the component deviation, resulting in defects of inclusion, scattering particles, especially the synthesis process in MgO doped material, because MgO has high melting point, and the aggregation of powders, prone to doping element distribution uneven phenomenon.
