Examination Items and Methods:
The examination items of solid wood flooring include process precision, appearance inspection
and physical mechanics performance examination.
3.1 Examination of process precision
3.1.1 Measuring instrument
3.1.1.1 Steel tape, precision: 1.0mm.
3.1.1.2 Steel rule, precision: 0.5mm.
3.1.1.3 Micrometer, precision: 0.01mm.
3.1.1.4 Vernier caliper, precision: 0.02mm.
3.1.1.3 Clearance gauge, precision: 0.01mm.
3.1.2 Examination methods
3.1.2.1 Length (l) examination
The examination of length (l) is measured in the both sides along the floor width direction, and
10mm away from the flooring sides by steel tape or steel rule, the precision is up to .5mm
3.1.2.2 Examination of width (w)
The examination of length (w) is measured in the both sides along the floor width direction, and
20mm away from the flooring sides by steel tape or steel rule, the precision is up to .5mm
3.1.2.3 Examination of thickness (t)
The examination of thickness(t) is measured in the four corners of the flooring, and the midpoint
of the long side of the flooring (20mm away from the flooring side) by micrometer, the precision is 0.1mm
3.1.2.4 Examination of squareness (q)
For measuring the squareness (q), one side of L-square abuts against the long side of the flooring, and the maximum distance from the other side of the L-square to the terminal of the flooring is measured
by clearance gauge, the accuracy is up to 0.01mm
A grade: Almost without any objection, perfect board.
B grade: Slightlyvarious colour allowed. the diameter of dead knots must be under 5mm and the diameter of live knots be under 8mm, maximum of each kinds
knots is 3. The width of sapwood must be under 8mm, the length of sapwood is unlimited.The length of black line must under 200mm and the width under 1mm. any other objection are unaccepted.
C grade: Middle degree various colour accepted, the diameter of dead knots must be under 8mm and the diameter
of live knots be under 15mm, maximum of each kinds knots is 3. sapwood free.
D grade: Various colouraccepted, live knots free, sapwood free, the diameter of dead knots is under 50mm.The length of crack
must be under 300mm, width under 2mm. any other objection, including the worm hole, molder and unnature various colour are not allowed.
E grade: Various colour accepted, allow only one 50mm diameter knot, one to three 30mm diameter knots. The length of crack must be under 300mm, width under 3mm. Molder is not allowed, big and can be filled worm hole allowed. Little worm hole is not allowed.
